The first thing that you need to consider in card counting is to learn and master the basic strategy. Basic strategy has been verified to be mathematically logical because of computers. Basically there is no need to learn but rather to memorize. If you want to become a successful card counter, your second nature will be the basic strategy, considering that you will play more than enough of the hands.

Step Two: Learn how to perform Running Counts

Utilizing the Hi/Lo system as an example, the cards 2 to 6 have that value of +1 and the card value of 10 and Aces have the value of -1. Notice that there are equal amounts in the two groups of the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and the next group 10, J, Q, K and A. The neutral counts here are 7, 8, and 9. Learning how to card count to simple, just get a deck of cards and then flip the cards over one each time and perform the "running count".

Example of cards coming out of the deck: 8, K, 3, 3, 6, 2, 7 and A. The count would be: 0, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3, +3 and +2. If you are finished with the deck of cards the running count must be at zero. If you didn't get the zero, you might have made some mistake. Don't be satisfied until you get everything right. Practice makes perfect so don't stop until you can do it faster. Card counting should be done at least within 30 seconds.

Step Three: Converting Running Count to True Count

If you want to bet properly and to know what your advantage is against the casino you must convert the running count into a true count. In order to convert the running count to the true count you need to divide the running count to the amount of the decks that you haven't seen.

Step Four: The Environment of the Casino

Usually, casinos are surrounded with too many distractions. You might find it difficult to concentrate on your card counting if the environment is too noisy. I suggest that when you practice card counting do it with the television on or with a loud music in your background. This will help you feel that you are in a casino with casino atmosphere. So if you are ready to play a hand of blackjack you won't get irritated and distracted with the noise in the casino.

Step Five: Bet Spreads

Bet on the casino that the players have bigger advantage. Look for the casino that has a larger bet spread in order you for to make more money.
